Eeny, meeny, miny, moe!

I have always been fond of animals, from birds to rabbits, from fishes to turtles, from hamsters to exotic ones like iguanas and snakes. As a teen I only had a few instances where I was given a chance to pet a dog. Primarily because my dad ain't a fan of it. I think it's the arf'n and the woof'n they make that irritates him. And In those very few moments, I said to myself this is what I want. I fell in love with each of them every time.

A few months back, I said to myself I was ready to have one. But knowing that you're ready ain't gonna cut it in terms of having a dog. You have to really consider a lot of things. So I did a lot of reading/researching/thinking. Having lots of breeds to choose from. Which one will really fit me and my girlfriends life style. Adoption is out of the question not because we are against it. In fact It was our first choice but considering the fact that we live in a compound where pet's aren't really welcome. We both agreed that It has to be small dog. Small enough that we can sneak it in and out of the compound.

Then the question of the breed. Shih-Tzus, Malteses and Poodles are the most obvious choice but those breeds will require a lot of time in terms of grooming. Unfortunately, we agreed that We didn't want to spend our weekends on grooming salons and dog spas.

Then in one episode of Cesar Milan's Dog Whisperer, we saw how a Chihuahua could be the right dog for us. It's small, It's cute and adorable and grooming is really a breeze. Exercise can mean the run around the apartment. Though they can be loud at times I think we can live with that small setback. I mean It's a dog. What do you expect.

So one day, When we can no longer bear the anticipation. We got our little princess, GUCCI.

We've been with her for several months now and she's perfect. She's just right for us. I guess all the research paid off.

If you're planning to get one and this is your first time, you better do your homework cause it isn't as simple as Eeny Meeny Miny Moe! It's not always the one with the most adorable eyes staring at you from inside the showcase window of the pet store nor the priciest on the liter. In choosing the right paw buddy, remember it's not what you want that matters, It's what they need.. Every dog is unique and they all have different needs.

Having a dog is a BIG responsibility (Speaking from experience) and I could not emphasize it any better. It's like having a child but don't worry ...

It is all worth it!
