5 days ago my dog Gucci, an 8th month old chihuahua started bleeding. Being a first time owner me and my gf panicked. Good thing there are a lot of support groups online and a close friend who has a year old shi-tzu assured us that its perfectly normal and it may last 2 weeks the most. It was a relief cause as i have said it was a first. Even my family laughed at first when they heard. I said i cant take Gucci out cause shes having her period.
I feel for Gucci. I can sense her confusion and somehow her embarrassment. If only i could tell her that its ok and she'll be just fine.
Gucci sleeps on the bed with us and that's a big challenge. We tried doggie diapers but it just proved inconvenient and expensive since every time we attempt it. She'll just play Houdini on us. We felt really bad cause we didn't want to cage her. So we decided to just let her be and just use an old black shirt as an extra bedding for her. This also meant that waking up every once in a while to check whether or not shes still on it.
Its just like having a baby in the house. It takes a lot of getting used to, patience and dedication. But again all these are worth it.
